Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

We are so pleased to announce that Taylor Young has joined our team at Toronto Plastic Surgery. Taylor is a certified medical aesthetician and will be offering our patients a variety of medical facials, skin peels and advice on skin health and skin care. In addition, Taylor is trained in providing an outstanding treatment called Manual Lymphatic Drainage.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle therapeutic massage technique that targets the lymphatic system, promoting the removal of excess fluid and toxins from the body.

The manual massage encourages lymphatic flow and increases fluid drainage. As a result, the body is able to maximize the delivery of nutrients to tissues, remove metabolic waste and maintain fluid balance while stimulating the body’s immune system.

During a treatment, light pressure is applied using the hands. The skin is gently stretched and manipulated, moving from one draining lymph node basin to the other. A feeling of relaxation and relief is common both during and after the treatment. An MLD program is customized to the specific needs of each patient.

MLD is an ideal treatment for patients that are recovering from surgery or from an injury.

The benefits of MLD include:

  • Improved overall results
  • Early resolution of swelling or edema
  • Faster recovery time
  • Faster return to normal activities
  • Relaxing treatment that diminishes pain and inflammation
  • Detoxify and cleanse the area of injury
  • Improved energy following the treatment
MLD treatments are offered to all of our surgical patients as part of their recovery package.

The treatments are also ideal for post injury recovery or for people with areas of swelling that are persistent or uncomfortable.
