Microfat Injection

As we age, the volume of fat in our face diminishes. This loss of fat results in an increased appearance of wrinkles and creases, expression lines, sunken cheeks and thin lips. Microfat injection involves transferring fat from one area of the body to another through liposuction and precisely placed injections. Fat is redistributed to these “problem” areas restoring  both volume and a more youthful appearance.

What results can I expect from microfat injection?

Microfat injection can dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and areas of volume loss. Autologous microfat injection is one of the safest and most natural ways to reduce the appearance of facial aging. Because it is your own fat that is being injected, results are more long lasting than with traditional injection products, reducing the need for repeat treatments.

What are the benefits of microfat injection compared to the other injectable products?

Autologous fat can be used in higher volumes than other injectable fillers, allowing for the treatment of a wider range of conditions. These include the face and neck as well as the aging hands and post-surgical or post-traumatic contour irregularities on the body.

What is involved in a microfat injection?

Fat is withdrawn using a syringe and a fine cannula. It is then carefully prepared for re-injection through a small syringe and needle. A minor amount of overfilling is necessary to allow for fat resorption in the weeks following treatment. Because the material being injected is your own tissue, your body readily accepts the fat and outcomes are more predictable with greater duration than that seen with other injectable products.

Patients are able to resume normal activity within a few days. Swelling, puffiness, bruising or redness in both the donor and recipient sites is to be expected, with the severity of these symptoms depending upon the size and location of the treated area. Avoid the sun until the redness and bruising subsides – usually about 48 hours. In the meantime, you may use makeup with sun block protection to help camouflage any bruising.
