Artesense® is a long lasting injectable implant that is used to correct wrinkles, folds, and soften acne scars. It is composed of PMMA microspheres, which are suspended in a collagen solution. Artesense ® utilizes the body's natural ability to encapsulate the PMMA microspheres by forming connective tissue around these particles. The process of encapsulation is complete in about 3 months.
Skin testing is optional and at the physician’s discretion. The substance used as a carrier for the PMMA is collagen from an Australian source. The allergizing ends of the collagen molecules have been removed therefore minimizing the risk of allergic reactions.
The most commonly treated areas are:
- Nasolabial folds or smile lines
- Facial scars from acne or trauma
After the initial consultation, the Artesense™ treatment may take 15 to 30 minutes. Any redness from the injection may be covered with makeup. It is advised to limit facial movements for 24 hours after the treatment. It is important that only small amounts of Artesense® be injected so that the degree of correction can be assessed to prevent over injection. A series of injections may be necessary at 2-3 month intervals, with the complete correction taking up to a year.
Risks and Complications
Minor swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness and itchiness are all possible side effects, lasting only 1-2 days. The implant may feel hard at first. However, it will soften over time as your body produces its own collagen and new connective tissue.
In rare cases, nodules may appear at the injection sites.
Artesense ™ is contraindicated in people who have a know allergy to lidocaine or bovine products, have been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease, are susceptible to keloids or have thin skin.
Cost
The cost of the injection will depend upon the number of areas treated and the amount of product needed to achieve the desired outcome. The cost of one syringe is $650.00 and package pricing is available for additional syringes if needed.
